Online sunlight ordering system!
Sint Maartensdal, one of the biggest residential complexes in Leuven, had in the 60′s the ambition to create a social commune, made of equal apartments. Nevertheless there is a fundamental inequality: bloc 1 is oriented north-south, so only half of them enjoy’s direct sunlight.‘There is the Sun’ want’s to provide an answer to this problem, and is a symbolic renovation of the utopian idea’s of architect Renaat Braem.
To achieve this, three movable mirrors were placed in front of ‘blok 1’. They reflect the sunlight the whole day long to one fixed point. Through a simple web application the residents can enter their house number and order sunlight for a specific moment.
